802.11

Refers to a family of specifications developed by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for wireless network technology. 802.11 specifies an over-the-air interface between a wireless client and a base station or between two wireless clients. The range between units can be a few meters to over 450 meters. The IEEE accepted the specification in 1997 (USAID Automated Directives System - ADS - Chapter 545).
